Of Hardwork & Perseverance...

As of what had been put across in the earlier post, 2008 is undoubtedly a year of change. A year which will see a couple of major changes for myself and many others. One of which includes the transformation phase from a school boy to an army personnel. Three years of polytechnic education will soon come to an end as that special day approaches. 29 May 2008 that is. A day where the graduation ceremony for the LSCT classes of 2008 will take place.

For some, it may be a joyous occasion for celebrations. Yet for some, it may just simply be another occasion or probably the last opportunity to meet up with their friends in a school settings. Nevertheless, we must always remember that the graduation represents the culmination of our achievements and hard work, and every single one who puts on the graduation attire should be gleaming with pride as we are all victors in our very own way.

To put it, those three years never did come easy for me. Probably, not me alone, but anyone of us who yearned to do well in our studies and get into our desired universities for further education. Working through the nights to meet reports dateline, skipping meals, venting my frustration on my project mates, taking pain relievers to deal with sinus pain and consuming cans and cans of energy drinks or coffee seems to become part and parcel of my life.

That pain got severely aggravated especially when I got to see my secondary friends, who chose the shorter JC route, proceeding on to their call of National Service while I am still on the way of persuing a diploma. At times, I seriously doubted my decision of opting for a polytechnic education. Why do I choose to spend three years for a piece of qualification that is deemed to be 'inferior' to an A Level Certificate?

Walking on the street with home clothes on, on any other school day simply suggest to people that you are a Poly student. And sad to say, in this society, it is still common to have some country bumpkins thinking that JC students are always the smarter lot. But how true is that? In fact, I'm used to people giving me that kind of 'look-down' expressions whenever I mentioned that I am a Poly student, but what can I do? And to that lady who always gossip behind my back, telling people that I'm an OLD Armyboy, I just want to take a stand and emphasize the fact that JC boys enlist into the army at the age of nineteen, a year after their A Levels, while we poly students enlist at the age of twenty. One year of difference isn't that looooong as you always thought it is.

Anyway, back to the main topic. This particular entry partly serve to let some people know that, what I had achieved so far are based entirely on my own hardwork. Right from the very first day up till the moment I submitted my last examination script, I had been persevering on to achieve what I want and that is the medal that I had set target on ever since I came to know of its existence. A good beginning makes a good end. I understand how some people might feel but whatever it is, please do not let your jealousy engulfed you. In addition, please do not think too highly of me. My list of awards did not take up two pages as you thought it has.

To the rest of the graduands, let us just wait patiently for the Graduation Portal 2008 to be available and to the guys, let us pray hard for the arrival of our Enlistment Letter. Cheers!
